Ahead of the season finale, the cast of “Twin Peaks” stopped by Vulture Festival on Saturday to chat about the Showtime revival, which has been a ratings success for the premium cable. The actors and director David Lynch were joined by executive producer Sabrina S. Sutherland, who said she’s proud that the show has been able to appeal to both new and older audiences.

“I feel like we’ve been able to bring in a new audience while maintaining the old one,” she said.

“I’ve had kids come up to me and say, ‘I’m watching it with my mom,’” Lynch added.

The cast and crew also dished on the hurdles that came with bringing a show back to television after 25 years. “The first thing that was difficult was just getting people to believe that we could do it,” Lynch said. “From the time we got the go-ahead to the time we finished, it was about a year and a half. That’s pretty fast for a show.”

The team also had to deal with the fact that many of the original cast members hadn’t acted in years, while others had passed away. “Sometimes it was hard to get them to remember how to act,” Lynch said. “Not that they had forgotten, but they were so far away from that part of their life.”

“It was hard because they were going off of a script that they hadn’t seen,” Kyle MacLauchlan, who plays FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, said. “They would come in and they would have to learn their lines that day and then go on set.”

The cast admitted that, as a result of filming so quickly, they didn’t get a chance to actually watch the episodes until they were aired on TV. “I actually forgot what we shot,” Lynch joked. “I’m just glad I was in it and that it was good.”

“I didn’t watch it until it was on TV,” MacLauchlan said. “It was really interesting because I saw it through new eyes.”

The director admitted that he was “surprised” that Showtime allowed him to create the show the way he wanted. “They were wonderful,” he said.

“They were very supportive,” Sutherland added. “They’re very risk-taking.”

“The first thing they said was, ‘It’s going to be great,’” Lynch said. “But then there were times when they would say, ‘That’s a little weird.’ You just have to keep going.”

The cast also teased that there is a possibility for more seasons of “Twin Peaks” and that they’re on board if Lynch wants to keep going. “It’s all up to David,” MacLauchlan said.

“It’s all up to him and Mark [Frost],” Lynch added. “I think they just need a break.”

The season finale of “Twin Peaks” airs Sunday at 8 p.m. on Showtime.
